Playing Catch-Up
12/8/05: Stephen and I were living in an apartment with a view of a large grass field, and beyond it was a freeway interchange with heavy traffic. I was out in the field alone. I had been exercising and I was wearing my running clothes. I relaxed, lay on the grass, stretched, looked at the sky and looked back at the apartment. I heard a loud crack or explosion and I looked in the direction of the freeway and saw black smoke. The final crack that sent me running ended in this long, eerie metallic sound, louder than anything I'd ever heard before. It sounded like we were being attacked by something otherworldly. I ran back towards my apartment and the black smoke filled the sky. I saw S. in the windows that were in the door...it was locked and I had to pull on the knob frantically before he unlocked it. I could see people from our building running out their doors, jumping in their cars, fleeing. S. seemed like an emotional mess. He was blabbering and crying and I asked him if he thought we should try to leave and he stammered No, because of the cats, and I saw his point.
12/23/05: My mother, father and I went to Venice Beach. We were staying in a small room with one bed that we had to share with a group of young mothers and their young children. My parents went out ahead of me--either to a bar or to go swimming--and I stayed behind because my bathing suit was being a nuisance and I was suddenly extremely hairy.
12/25/05: I was in a place that was Joshua Tree but not. I had to cross a super-long, skinny, swinging bridge to get to the beautiful place across the way, and I did it with no problem. Later I wanted to return to the same place so I began crossing again. I saw Andrea and asked her what was wrong--some people were leaning over the bridge being ill--and I wondered if I wanted to continue or just turn around and head back, since after all, I had already been across the bridge once.
12/29/05: I saw someone getting into a car driven by John Lennon, with Yoko Ono in the passenger seat, and two small children in the back.
12/30/05: Packing and packing, in a hurry, and my hair misbehaving. Was I going to defend my thesis?
12/31/05: Running. I had to jump on a subway to get my clothes and gear and then jump back on while it was moving.
1/7/06: S. and I were busily trying to have sex in my mother's sideyard. Everytime things got hot and heavy, I could see the blinds in the bedroom window above being opened, and it was my grandmother spying on us! At one point I yelled at the top of my lungs that she was disgusting and I was horrified that she would spy on us. I told S. that she was seriously sexually repressed and therefore perverse.
