ferris wheel

ferriswheel.jpg

a ferris wheel in downtown Portland. my submission for photo friday: simplicity.

The last time I rode a ferris wheel, I was eighteen years old, visiting Paris with an older man. The gondolas were round, with bucket seats and brightly painted, umbrella-style roofs. It seemed we could tumble out at the slightest movement.

When our gondola got stuck at the top, I clenched my jaw and held tight to the center bar, while my boyfriend lit a cigarette and stomped his feet, trying to tip our seats.

Two men teased me from the gondola above, pointing and laughing at my obvious terror. One of them snapped pictures and said cheese. I wonder whether those photos still exist.
