I thought about taking this picture for a long time. Every time I walked by, I remembered the old Bromo-Selzer advertisement across the street, painted over with drab beige so that no one can see it. How long before Fire Apparatus was gone, too?
At the bus stop nearby, I heard someone say, "Why the hell would anyone take a picture of that?"
That made me want to take it even more.

I think its beautiful, I love the colors. And to comment about 'The last day'...wow! Thats awesome! It relates to me, by trying to remember the last time I spoke to my father, before he passed away. I was 17, and the pain I felt created a blur to when it was, and what we spoke of.

What I really like about this photo is that it's almost like an advertisement to set it on fire. It's calling attention to itself as a "fire apparatus."
The colors make it beautifully murky. Like it's deep underwater, with some light reflecting from elsewhere...

Awesome picture. I get funny looks, too, when I take pictures of Portland that no tourist would ever take.
I got baffling looks when I took a picture of the hideous Standard Insurance Building downtown. People didn't understand that I took the picture BECAUSE it was hideous.
Your Fire Apparatus picture isn't hideous, though, it's great.

Not my work, but your reference to the "old Bromo-
Seltzer advertisement" made me think of it.
